Truth Exposed:

And now for part 2: Luke 13:32.  Jesus calls Herod a fox.  Whoever thought Jesus would be about name-calling; he certainly put a lot of labels on the Pharisees, and you can read many of these in Matthew 23, the Seven Woes.    This wasn’t a bullying tactic, but a pronouncement of Herod’s character, the same way he called out the character of the Pharisees.  To the Jew, calling someone a fox was to declare that they were “cunning, yet a weak ruler.”  A fox was three things to the Jew:  (1) it was the slyest of animals;  (2) it was regarded as the most destructive of animals;  and (3) it was a symbol of a worthless and insignificant man.  Jesus had no trouble calling anything or anyone just exactly what it was.  No malice, just fact.  And in verse 33 he’s telling Herod to watch for the victory.  Powerful.  Nothing hidden, everything exposed.  That’s Jesus.
