Truth Exposed:   Compassion

Merciful and compassionate are synonymous in scripture, but their meaning is so much more than we understand.  Deuteronomy 4:31 tells us God is merciful.  The Hebrew is rachum, “to love deeply:” the root word is racham, which means “womb,” a place of protection and nourishment.  The Free Dictionary defines womb as “An encompassing, protective hollow or space.” Psalm 103:13 conveys this; Mark 6:34 conveys the same meaning in Greek.  As you read the scriptures, remember this translation every time you read of the mercy and compassion of the Lord; envision yourself encased in the arms of Christ, his womb of protection and nourishment.
