Truth Exposed: High Places
The “high places” in scripture refer to the pagan altars built on top of hills out of sight of the people for worshiping the pagan gods, like keeping sin a secret. Jeremiah 7:31; 2 Kings 16:4; 2 Kings 12:3, 14:4, 15:4, 15:35. Solomon allowed his wives to have their shrines in 1 Kings 11:7. Josiah destroyed these places in 2 Kings 23:13. When you read about the kings and God’s people, you will find more did wrong than right. That’s a picture of the Kingdom of God; more do wrong than right. We are to tear down the “high places,” no matter the cost. “High places” are all those things that separate us from the Lord, sin. Remedy: Jesus.
