Idols  Truth Exposed:

Genesis 31 is the tale of Jacob taking his family, leaving Laban, and starting the journey back to his homeland.  The story tells of his secretive preparations and the leaving.  The last sentence of verse 19, in the middle of this narrative, is remarkable, to say the least: “Rachel stole her father’s household idols and took them with her.”  Idols?  What?  Lots of theories but nothing concrete scripturally.  Apparently, Laban didn’t worship the God of his fathers, Abraham and Isaac.  He lived in a polytheistic society, and it seems it rubbed off on him and his daughters.  Bottom line for this post: living in a society where idol worship is the norm does not make it right; idol worship is insidious and will creep into our lives if we are not vigilant.   An idol is anything that takes the place before God.  Money; social position; career; social media; gambling; drugs; alcohol; sex in any of its forms; relationships; sporting events; .  the list goes on and on.  Is there anything that has taken God's place in my life?
