Truth Exposed: Advocate
John 14:16 uses 2 words that can be confusing: “another advocate.” The Greek, another, specifically means “another of the same kind,” someone like Jesus. Advocate in the Greek means “one called alongside to help.” The first advocate is Jesus, Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25. the other is his Holy Spirit, Galatians 4:6, Romans 8:14. They work in tandem to bring about God’s will, Romans 8:26-27. The work of the Holy Spirit in our lives is critical to our Christian walk; we can’t do it without him.
