Truth Exposed:   Bow

In Genesis 9:16, God tells Noah he will set a bow in the sky as a sign of his covenant with the earth.  Most translation say “rainbow,” but the Hebrew translation is “qesheth,” bow, meaning weapon.  A bow is used for many different things, but in this context, I believe it symbolizes protection, not aggression; there will never again be total destruction by water.  Each color of the rainbow we see is pointing to a characteristic of the Lord.  The Ancients understood this, Noah saw a weapon, and the goodness of God, but we have lost this through romanticization of the story.
