Truth Exposed:   Yeast

Jesus warns us against the “leaven of the Pharisees” in Matthew 16:11, but do we truly realize what he is saying?  The Greek word for leaven is zyme  and it means “to boil up.”  The Pharisees would inflate, or boil up, the law so that the average Jew was burdened instead of freed; they “expanded” their teachings to make the law more than it was intended to be.  Yeast, if used properly, will produce something good and tasty; used improperly, you end up with a bad product.  The point:  check the teachings you receive against the Bible; is the teaching accurate?  If not, toss it.  Be careful who you listen to; not all teachers and preachers are careful with the Word.
