Truth Exposed: Marriage
There is not one, what we would call a “legal,” wedding ceremony in the entire bible. Not one. The words naming a “husband” and “wife” are first mentioned in Genesis 3:6, 17. The wedding at Cana, John 2:1, was a party, not a ceremony. Genesis 24:67 is an example of the typical “marriage.” The modern marriage license came about around 1600 in order to procure various legal rights for women., but was not widely used in America until around 1900. There are currently 14 states plus the District of Columbia that do not require marriage licenses. Fascinating!!
