Truth Exposed: Friend #2
Abraham is the first one in the bible who was called God’s friend, Genesis 12:1, 4; 15:6; Isaiah 41:8, 2 Chronicles 20:7, James 2:23; Moses, Friend #1, being the second Exodus 33:11. Both not only because they believed what God said, they also acted on it.. In addition to the usual definitions for “friend,” in James the word in Greek is philos, and states the “friend” is one of the bridegroom’s friends, what we call the best man, Isaiah 54:5; Luke 5:35; Isaiah 62:5, who on his behalf asks the hand of the bride and renders him various services in closing the marriage and celebrating the nuptials. Wow! Now translate that into the spiritual: Jesus is the bridegroom; we are the “best men”; the bride(s) are the True Believers; and we are working to close the marriage. How profound. Did Abraham and Moses meet those requirements? How well-versed are we in the duties of the best man?
