Truth Exposed: Names #2
Our names define us; they tell people who we are. Our names and reputations are synonymous. Proverb 22:1 tells us a good name is better than silver. The name of Jesus gives us authority John 15:16. When you hear the name Lucifer, you recognize Satan and hell. Why did God change the names of so many of the bible characters? Why were Daniel and the “3 amigos” names changed in Daniel 1:7, and then Abram; Jacob; Sarai; Peter; Saul; Solomon 2 Samuel 12:24-25; Joshua Numbers 13:16; and Joseph Genesis 41:45. When you enter a new life, you inherit a new identity. Joseph and Daniel and the 3 were immersed in different cultures. The O.T people entered into a new life with Yahweh, and in the N.T. we entered into a new life in Christ, so we take on the characteristics of our new identity. Revelation 2:17 says we will all receive a new name in eternity. Our names are precious. Protect them at all costs. Listen to the Gaithers sing A new name in Glory
